Six Ways to Invite God to Thanksgiving Dinner

 Powered by Max Banner Ads

Just like the Pilgrims so long ago, when most people sit down to Thanksgiving dinner they express gratitude for the heaping plate of food before them. Unlike the Pilgrims, however, whose thanks were offered specifically to God in heartfelt prayers, today too many people’s words of gratitude are offered in a cursory manner. Before putting that first forkful of turkey into their mouths, they say their prayers as a necessary formality without much thought to a Divine Presence.

It’s easy to find ourselves feeling physically full but spiritually empty at the end of the Thanksgiving holiday feast. Much like other holidays, religious or otherwise, many of us forget to invite God to our Thanksgiving table.

In other words, we don’t look at the bigger picture. We don’t factor in how God might have had a hand in creating the food we are about to eat, in the abundance and prosperity that made it possible to purchase and prepare the feast or in our safe arrival at the Thanksgiving table. Thanksgiving offers a wonderful opportunity to put God into the picture, which transforms the holiday into a spiritual and meaningful one.

With a little thought and planning, we can transform empty Thanksgiving observances into meaning-full and spirit-full rituals and traditions. And we don’t have to be particularly religious to do so. To achieve this, we need only have a belief in God and a desire to have this particular holiday be a spiritual experience. If we possess these, we are well on the way to creating a meaning-full and spirit-full holiday.

In addition, incorporating any or all of the following six steps into a Thanksgiving celebration will help change an empty holiday observance into a meaning-full and spirit-full one:

1. Voice your intention to have a spiritual experience. You can simple state your intention aloud or write it on a piece of paper Intention has an awesome ability to manifest. So, clearly intend that this Thanksgiving celebration will feel and be spiritual for you. Imagine that your intention serves as an invitation sent upward, outward, inward wherever you believe God resides to the Divine. After all, if you don’t invite God to dinner, God won’t know to show up.

2. Have faith that God will arrive. It’s difficult to have a spiritual experience if you don’t, first, believe in God, and second, have faith that you can have an experience of God. You can’t believe it when you see it’ with God. You have to believe it so you can see it.

3. Develop the courage to let God in. Fear represents the largest thing that stops most people from having a spiritual experience. They are afraid of what the experience will be like, how it will change them, how it will affect their lives. You have to have courage to experience God. If you are too afraid to open the door when your dinner guest rings the bell, you’ll be dining alone.

4. Create a sanctuary. This is a specially decorated and prepared space in which you plan to serve your Thanksgiving dinner. When you make the effort to create a sacred space for any celebration or holiday observance, you will find your festivities automatically take on a more spiritual atmosphere and energy. In other words, create a sacred space. In the Old Testament, God tells the Jews, “Build for me a sanctuary and I will dwell among you.” (Exodus 25:8-9) Create a space in which God can “be” with you.

5. Remember to thank God. Create prayers especially for this day. If you don’t want to write your own prayer, use an existing one from your own faith or from some religious or spiritual tradition. Prayers, being what they are words spoken to God automatically give the meal a spiritual bent and cause us to remember God.

6. Take on the role of spiritual leader. Don’t rely on anyone else to make this year’s Thanksgiving observance a spiritual experience for you. Take responsibility and make it that for yourself and for the other people sharing the holiday with you. Don’t be afraid to try something new or to be creative. Bring spiritually symbolic items to your table or share spiritual readings. Orchestrate the meal in a way that feels spiritual to you, and other people will feel that energy as well.

By taking these six steps toward a meaningful and spiritual Thanksgiving observance, you can ensure that you not only invite God to your Thanksgiving celebration but that you feel if not actually see God sitting at your table.

In Bible versus Quran: the True Nature of the Lord Jesus

The Sons of the Lord God in Bible versus Quran (16)

This is the 16th article of the series:” The Sons of the Lord God in Bible versus Quran”.

The Bible affirms the Faith in the Son of God by saying who is overcoming the world? It is only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.  The Noble Quran says that it is an unforgivable sin when you say or believe that the Almighty Creator has a son or sons; this major sin will lead to the Eternal Fire in the Hereafter.

The Sons of the Lord God in the Bible (16)

The Bible (1 John 5:1-5) says that everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? It is only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

——————————————–

1 John 5:1-5 in five different versions of the Bible:

New International Version

1Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

American Standard Version

1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is begotten of God: and whosoever loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

2 Hereby we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and do his commandments.

3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

4 For whatsoever is begotten of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that hath overcome the world, even our faith.

5 And who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

English Standard Version

1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 4For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world— our faith. 5Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

King James Version

1Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

4For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

5Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

The Sons of the Lord God in the Quran (16)

The Noble Quran makes the topic of the sons of God very clear and says that Allah, the Almighty Creator, has neither a son nor a partner.

In addition, The Quran makes the signs that Jesus was not god very understandable.

The Quran says that Allah will say unto Jesus at the Resurrection in rebuke of his followers: ‘O Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to mankind in the life of this world, “Take me and my mother as gods, besides Allah”?’

Jesus will say unto Allah: ‘Glory be to You!, exalted be You above all that does not befit You, such as having a partner and so on. It is not mine; it is unjustified for me, to say what I have no right to.

It is not befitting for the Majesty of Allah to take to Himself a son.

Allah is exalted, magnified; He is above what they associate with Him of son or partners.  Allah is far transcendent above all that they ascribe unto Him!

In Islam, this point is very important faith wise.

From the Islamic point of view, the conclusion of this fundamental topic that may establish or destroy the faith is that:

Any one who believe that the Almighty Creator has a son or Sons; he messes up his faith and is considered as a disbeliever and in the afterlife he will end up as an eternal inhabitant of the Eternal Hell.

Any one who believes that the Almighty Creator has no son or partner, he has a good faith and is considered as a believer; and in the afterlife, he will end up as an eternal inhabitant of the Eternal Paradise.

Verses 5:116-119 make the topic of the son(s) of God plain, clear and understandable.

The meanings of verses 5:116-119:

The meanings of verse 5:116

And, mention when God will say, to Jesus at the Resurrection in rebuke of his followers: ‘O Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to mankind in the life of this world, “Take me and my mother as gods, besides Allah”?’

He, Jesus, says, shuddering: ‘Glory be to You!, exalted be You above all that does not befit You, such as having a partner and/or a son. It is not mine who said that, it is unjustified for me, to say what I have no right to.

You know what I have conveyed to them of commands and prohibitions.

If I indeed had said it to them, You would have known it. You know what is, hidden by me, in my self, but I do not know what is within Your Self, that is, what You keep hidden of Your knowledge.

The meanings of verse 5:117

(Jesus continues) I only said to them in the life of this world only that which You commanded me, to say, and that is: “Worship Allah, declare Allah’s divine Oneness and obey Him; He is my Lord and yours.”

And I was a witness, a watcher, over them, preventing them from saying what they used to say by conveying your message whilst I dwelt among them; but when You took me, when You raised me up to the heaven, You were Yourself the Watcher over them, You were the Protector and Witness of them, the Observer of their deeds, and You Yourself are Witness over all things, Aware and knowing them, including what I said to them and what they said after me, and whatever else.

The meanings of verse 5:118

(Jesus continues) If you chastise them, that is, those among them who are fixed upon disbelief, verily they are Your slaves, and You are their Master, disposing of them as You will: there can be no objection to what You do; and if You forgive them, lo! they are Your slaves. You, only You, are the Mighty in His affair and the Wise in His actions.

The meanings of verse 5:119

Allah is well-pleased with them, because of their faith, works and obedience to Him, and they are well-pleased with Him, because of His reward and the honor bestowed upon them.  That which I have mentioned of eternity and pleasure is the great triumph; the ultimate safety: they earned Paradise and were saved from the torment of hell.   The sincerity of those who were liars in this world shall not avail them on that Day, just as it shall not avail the disbelievers when they (will) believe upon seeing the chastisement.

Verses 5:116-119 of the Noble Quran in four different translations:

Verse 5:116

QARIB: and when Allah said: ‘( prophet) Jesus, son of Mary, did you ever say to the people: “take me and my mother for two gods, other than Allah?” ‘exaltations to you, ‘ he said, ‘how could i say that to which i have no right? if i had said that, you would have surely known. you know what is in my self, but i do not know what is in yours. indeed, you are the knowledgeable of the unseen.

SHAKIR: and when Allah will say: o isa son of marium! did you say to men, take me and my mother for two gods besides Allah he will say: glory be to thee, it did not befit me that i should say what i had no right to (say); if i had said it, thou wouldst indeed have known it; thou knowest what is in my mind, and i do not know what is in thy mind, surely thou art the great knower of the unseen things

PICKTHAL: and when Allah saith: o Jesus, son of Mary! didst thou say unto mankind: take me and my mother for two gods beside Allah? he saith: be glorified! it was not mine to utter that to which i had no right. if i used to say it, then thou knewest it. thou knowest what is in my mind, and i know not what is in thy mind. lo! thou, only thou, art the knower of things hidden?

YUSUFALI: and behold! Allah will say: “o Jesus the son of marry! didst thou say unto men, worship me and my mother as gods in derogation of Allah’?” he will say: “glory to thee! never could i say what i had no right (to say). had i said such a thing, thou wouldst indeed have known it. thou knowest what is in my heart, thou i know not what is in thine. for thou knowest in full all that is hidden.

Verse 5:117

QARIB: i spoke to them of nothing except that which you ordered me, that you worship Allah, my lord and our lord. i witnessed them whilst living in their midst and ever since you took me to you, you have been the watcher over them. you are the witness of everything.

SHAKIR: i did not say to them aught save what thou didst enjoin me with: that serve Allah, my lord and your lord, and i was a witness of them so long as i was among them, but when thou didst cause me to die, thou wert the watcher over them, and thou art witness of all things

PICKTHAL: i spake unto them only that which thou commandedst me, (saying): worship Allah, my lord and your lord. i was a witness of them while i dwelt among them, and when thou tookest me thou wast the watcher over them. thou art witness over all things.

YUSUFALI: “never said i to them aught except what thou didst command me to say, to wit, ‘worship Allah, my lord and your lord’; and i was a witness over them whilst i dwelt amongst them; when thou didst take me up thou wast the watcher over them, and thou art a witness to all things.

Verse 5:118

QARIB: if you punish them (for their disbelief), they surely are your subjects; and if you forgive them, surely you are the almighty, the wise. ‘

shouldst forgive them, then surely thou art the mighty, the wise

PICKTHAL: if thou punish them, lo! they are thy slaves, and if thou forgive them (lo! they are thy slaves). lo! thou, only thou, art the mighty, the wise.

YUSUFALI: “if thou dost punish them, they are thy servant: if thou dost forgive them, thou art the exalted in power, the wise.”

Verse 5:119

QARIB: Allah will say: ‘this is the day the truthful shall benefit by their truthfulness. they shall live for ever in gardens underneath which rivers flow. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with him. that is the great winning. ‘

SHAKIR: Allah will say: this is the day when their truth shall benefit the truthful ones; they shall have gardens beneath which rivers flow to abide in them for ever: Allah is well pleased with them and they are well pleased with Allah; this is the mighty achievement

PICKTHAL: Allah saith: this is a day in which their truthfulness profiteth the truthful, for theirs are gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they are secure for ever, Allah taking pleasure in them and they in him. that is the great triumph.

YUSUFALI: Allah will say: “this is a day on which the truthful will profit from their truth: theirs are gardens, with rivers flowing beneath,- their eternal home: Allah well-pleased with them, and they with Allah: that is the great salvation, (the fulfillment of all desires).

God Speaks

Ancient Hebrew Stories

God exists. The soul survives death. And the wisest man who ever lived told us what to do with our lives. What more can be said? Quite a bit, say the ancient Hebrews. According to them, we have barely begun to scratch the surface. They tell us that their race has been favored with a number of special revelations. Those special revelations, they claim, bring a unique Jewish insight into the relationship between God and man.

What have we got here? Old wives’ tales? Myths? Legends? Jewish superstitions? Or could it be, there’s more to it than that?

Down through the centuries, many people, both gentiles and Jews alike, have agreed with the ancient Hebrews. They believed God has, for one reason or another, given the Jews certain “inside information.” Educated as well as uneducated people, intelligent as well as unintelligent people, and rational as well as irrational people have held this view.

Quite a few suffered and died for these beliefs. No one is willing to suffer and die for views they hold lightly. Since we know that to be the case, let’s take a closer look at what these ancient Hebrews have to say.

Fall of Man

One of the earliest stories tells about the fall of man. Here is the story: Disposable humans were not a part of God’s plan. The first people were designed as immortals. God granted them supreme authority on earth. They ruled over animals, plants, and everything else they found in their domain. God provided them with an ideal environment and satisfied all their needs. God, man, and nature lived in harmony. But it was not to last.

God didn’t want automatons. What would be the point? He wanted living, breathing, thinking beings who would obey him of their own free will. Of course, he knew he was taking a chance. Allowing them independent minds, they might rebel against him. And rebel they did.

A single act of defiance threw everything out of kilter. The close relationship between God and man broke down. Immortality was lost; everyone lived under a sentence of death. Nature turned against man producing thorns, thistles, and poison ivy. Animals turned to preying upon each other and upon man too when given a chance. Man was reduced to hard labor for his food. Woman suffered birth pains. Envy, jealousy, hate, murder, and a host of other problems soon beset mankind.

God’s Plan of Redemption

Those independent thinking humans quickly proved to be disloyal, ungrateful, and hardheaded. In site of that, God didn’t give up on them. He went to work steering, or attempting to steer humanity back on the right course. What did God do?

“He selected one particular people and spent centuries hammering into their heads the sort of God He was – that there was only one of Him and that He cared about right conduct. Those people were the Jews, and the Old Testament gives an account of the hammering process.” C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity.

Hebrew Prophets

Over the centuries a number of Hebrew prophets arose claiming they were inspired by God. Were they just a bunch of religious fanatics with vivid imaginations and a taste for the limelight? When you read their stories, that is not the impression you come away with. In fact, you get the idea that running around telling people they are wrong and God is “going to get them” was not considered a plum job.

Moses wanted no part of it. He begged God to choose someone else. Jeremiah, the weeping prophet, was timid by nature. He didn’t want the job. Jonah ran away and hid, trying to avoid making his prophecy. Elijah not only ran, he even asked God to kill him so he wouldn’t have to continue his prophesying. These men weren’t looking for fame and fortune. They would have much rather that God just leave them alone.

Perhaps you are wondering, just how good were these sometime reluctant prophets at predicting the future. You may be surprised. They were pretty good at it.

Franklin Analogy

Suppose, just suppose for a moment, that around the middle of the eighteenth century, Benjamin Franklin wrote in his Poor Richards’ Almanac: “Eisenhower will liberate Europe.” What would Franklin’s readers think of that? Certainly, they would find it curious. “Who’s this Eisenhower?” they would ask.

Good question too. The man would not be born for another hundred years. Then he wouldn’t come to the public’s attention for another fifty years or so. And, why would Europe need liberating anyway? Europe during Franklin’s day was as free, probably more free, than any other place in the civilized world. That being the case, Franklin’s hypothetical prediction would stand out as a double oddity for well over a century and a half.

Then dramatic events begin to unravel. In the 1930′s and 40′s, Hitler’s military juggernaut rolls over Europe conquering the continent. Britain barely manages to hold on. Then it happens. General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Supreme Allied Commander, leads the multi-national 1944 invasion liberating Europe form the Nazis.

What had been a long standing curiosity, suddenly becomes an amazingly accurate prophecy. How could Benjamin Franklin have known what would happen some two hundred years later? A lucky guess? No, it’s too detailed to have been a guess.

Had Benjamin Franklin actually made that prediction in 1750, we would still be talking about it today. A prophecy that exact and that correct would be remembered for centuries to come. However, if we go back to 700 B.C., we discover a prediction ever bit as curious as the one I devised for Franklin.

Isaiah’s Prophecy

The prophet’s name is Isaiah and his prophecy was: “Cyrus will permit Jerusalem to be rebuilt, and the temple foundation laid.” As you can well imagine, the people of Isaiah’s day found the prediction a bit odd.

“Who’s this Cyrus” they asked. Good question too. The man would not be born for another hundred years. Then he wouldn’t come to the Jewish public attention for another fifty years or so. And, why does Jerusalem need to be rebuilt and the temple foundations laid?

Jerusalem, during Isaiah’s lifetime, was already there. And the temple, built by Solomon, was still standing. Both Jerusalem and the temple would remain intact for over one hundred years after Isaiah uttered his prediction. That being the case, Isaiah’s prophecy stood as a double oddity for well over a century. Then events begin to take place.

Jerusalem fell to Nebuchadnezzar in 597 B.C. He carried off Judah’s King Jehoiachin and a number of the city’s leading citizen’s into exile. In 586 B.C., the Babylonian king returned and destroyed both Jerusalem and the temple.

Cyrus II came to the Persian throne in 558 B.C. Nineteen years later, he took Babylon on October 13, 539 B.C. In his first year, 538 B.C., Cyrus issued a decree permitting the Jews to return from exile and reconstruct the Jerusalem temple.

What had been a long standing curiosity, became an amazingly accurate prophecy. How could Isaiah have known what would happen some 160 years later? A lucky guess? No, it’s too detailed to have been a guess. Isaiah must have been privy to certain “inside information.” Something or someone gave him the message: “Cyrus would order Jerusalem to be rebuilt and the temple foundation laid.” The prophet isn’t secretive about his source. He informs us: “This is what the Lord says.”

A written prophecy that becomes history 160 years later should make us sit up and take notice. That is something out of the ordinary. But is this an isolated case? No. A number of Hebrew prophets demonstrated the same uncanny ability to look into the future and predict what will happen. Some of the most profound prophecies were long range predictions for nations and their people.

Prophecies for Cities, Nations, and Peoples

Obadiah (probably 8th century B.C.), speaking of Edom, says flatly, “There will be no survivors from the house of Esau.” Zephaniah (640 – 609 B.C.) tells us “Moah will become like Sodom, Ammon will become like Gomorrah. That is a poetic way of saying, both nations will be completely destroyed. Zephaniah discarded the poetic touch when it came to Philistine. Quoting God, he says: “I will destroy you and none will be left.” That’s about as plain as you can get.

Edom

What do we know about these ancient civilizations? Quite a bit. Let’s start with Edom. Beginning with Joel in the 9th century B.C., seven Hebrew prophets announced Edom’s doom. Edom was a long mountainous strip about one hundred miles long and twenty miles wide with mountain peaks as high as 5,700 feet.

They were related to the Jews. They could trace their heritage back to Isaac by way of Esau, whereas the Hebrews descended through Esau’s brother, Jacob. Despite their common heritage, Edomites were constant enemies of the Hebrews. Consequently, prophet after prophet saw nothing but disaster for Edom.

Given so much prophetic attention, how did history treat the Edomites? They didn’t fare too well. Between 550 and 400 B.C., Nabatean Arabs gradually forced the Edomites from their homeland. During the Maccabean period, around 120 B.C., John Hyrcanus and Simon of Gerasa attacked and conquered Edom. The providence was renamed Idumaca, and they were subjected to Judaism. About the time of the fall of Jerusalem, A.D. 70, Edomites disappear as a separate people. And seven Jewish prophets were proved right.

Moah

To the north of Edom, bordering the Salt (or Dead) Sea, lies Moah. Moabites descended from Lot, nephew of Abraham. So they were also relatives of the Hebrews. And they too were condemned by the Hebrew prophets. Amos said Moah will be destroyed for desecrating the bones of the king of Edom. And Zephaniah, as we mentioned before, prophesied that Moab would become like Sodom.

Moab was subdued by Nebuchadnezzar. Later Persians controlled it, then various Arab groups dominated Moab. The Moabites ceased to be a nation although they were still known as a race during the post-exile period. Alexander Jannaeus defeated them in the second century B.C.

Ammon

To Israel’s east lay Ammon. The Ammonites descended from Lot’s younger daughter. So they are closely related to the Moabites and more distantly to the Hebrews. To extend their borders further west, they went to war with Israel.

On one occasion, the Ammonites threatened to gouge out the right eye of everyone living in Jabesh Gilead. Only King Saul’s quick action prevented the Ammonites from carrying out their threat. Another sore point was when Israel requested their help, Ammon refused.

In general, these people opposed the Jews whenever the opportunity arose. Both Ezekiel and Zephaniah predicted their complete destruction. Their last stand appears to have been against Judas Maccabeus 166 – 160 B.C. Judas won, and nothing more is recorded about the Ammonites.

Philistine

The Philistines lived along a small area on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. They weren’t Semites. They came from Caphtor which may have been Crete or the islands of the Aegean. Joel, between 840 and 830 B.C., warned the Philistines that what they did to Israel would be done to them.

They had stolen the Hebrews’ gold, silver, and treasures. Worse than that, Philistines sold Jews as slaves to the Greeks. Amos, between 760 – 750 B.C., predicted the Philistines would be completely annihilated. A century later, Zephaniah said a remnant of Judah will inherit their land.

Here is how history has dealt with the Philistines. In his 734 to 732 B.C. campaign, Tiglath-pileser of Assyria defeated the Philistine cities of Ashkelon and Gaza. All of Philistine was bought under Assyrian rule. Then in 711 B.C., the Philistine people revolted against paying Assyria any further tribute. Sargon III put down the revolt with a vengeance.

Trouble continued for the Philistines. About 630 B.C., Scythians broke out of Caucasus and invaded the fertile crescent. They plundered the temple at Ashkelon and dominated the area for twenty-eight years. Later, Chaldeans destroyed Philistine. Persians, Greeks, Romans, and Arabs have all claimed the territory at one time or another after the demise of the Neo-Babylonia empire. Today, what was once Philistine cities are a part of Israel. Philistine is no longer with us.

Those once strong, vigorous nations have long since become completely destroyed or absorbed into some other group. Today no distinct Edomite, Ammonite, Moabite, or Philistine exists. Not a trace of them can be identified in modern populations. Obadiah, and Zephaniah’s chilling predictions have become indisputable facts of history. Now contrast those dismal prophecies for Edom, Moab, Ammon, and Philistine to the reassuring long range forecast for Israel.

Israel

Abram (Abraham) moved to Canaan in 2091 B.C. The Lord said to Abram, “Look around you, north, south, east, and west. All the land you see I will give to you and your descendents forever.” (Genesis 13:14-15) About 1,335 years later, Amos adds his prophecy. Quoting God: “I will bring back my exiled people Israel, they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them . . .” (Amos 9:14) “I will plant Israel in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land I have given them,” says the Lord your God. (Amos 9:15)

So what does history tell us about the Jews? Between 597 and 586 B.C., Judah and Jerusalem fell to the Babylonians. Some were killed and many of the more affluent were carted off into exile. Compliments of Cyrus and later Persian rulers, Jewish exiles were allowed to return between 537 and 445 B.C. They stayed in their restored homeland for the next 515 years.

Then in A.D. 70, Titus and his Roman legions destroyed Jerusalem scattering what was left of the Jews. Dispersed throughout the world, Jews somehow clung onto their distinct ethnic identity for the next 1,878 years.

May 14, 1948, the Jewish sate of Israel was reborn. Jews from practically every nation on earth returned to their homeland. They haven’t stopped yet. Although vastly outnumbered, they beat back their Arab foes in the 1967 Six-Day War and the 1973 Holy-Day War.

As Amos predicted 2,750 years ago, the remnant of Israel is still with us. Once again, Jews live in their own land – the same land God promised Abram and his descendants over four thousand years ago. Against all odds, Amos’ prophecy came true a second time.

Man cannot look into the future. No one knows what is going to happen tomorrow, much less what will occur hundreds of years from now. That’s just plain common sense. Be that as it may, solid evidence convinces us that several ancient Hebrews did have insight into the future.

They told us what was to become of specific cities, nations, and peoples. Occasionally, one of these prophets would name names and give timetables for future events. What they said would happen, did happen, just as they said it would. They told the truth. None of these prophets took credit for their predictions. To a man, each prophet claimed God as his source. Apparently, God has no difficulty communicating with man when he chooses to do so.

How to Hear From God

Most people tend to live on the shallow surface where our physical senses, thoughts, feelings, desires, and emotions are constantly being stimulated by worldly, carnal, fleshly ways. Because of this, we are not able to hear from God and be led by His Spirit, leaving ourselves wide open to fall for the many deceptions of the devil.
We want to hear from God so that we may be led to pursue the right things. Unfortunately, there are always four voices in every ones head at any given time; God’s voice, the devil’s voice, other people’s voices, and the voice of our own flesh. So, how are we to be sure to hear from God with all the noise going on?
It really is very simple. If we want to hear from God, we need to shut up the other three. So, how do we do that? The first step is to distinguish each voice so that we know what we are up against.
1. The most obvious voice is our own and it speaks to us in a variety of ways. It is always telling us what we want, what we think, and what we feel. The Bible refers to our mind, will, and emotions as our “flesh nature.”
2. Another voice that clamors for our attention is the voice of other people. They are usually telling us what they want, what they think, and what they feel.
3.The third voice is the voice of the devil. He is very subtle and speaks to us through worldly ideas and viewpoints that he has injected into other people.
4. The fourth voice is the voice of God and He speaks to us in our spirits. He does not speak to us in our minds. Unfortunately, that’s where most of us spend most of our thought life. Again, the Bible refers to this as “the mind of the flesh” (Romans 8:7, AMP).
These are the four voices that we constantly hear and which voice we obey is based on our ability to discern. Obviously, we want to obey the voice of God if we are going to enjoy a successful life because the Bible tells us that we must be led by the Holy Spirit.
So, how do we hear from God and be led by His Spirit? Again, by quieting the other three loud voices screaming for our attention.
When we can find some peace and quiet we will be able to hear that one still, small voice, which is the Holy Spirit of God, wanting to lead us in the way we should go.
How then do we quiet these other voices and find some peace and quiet?
First of all, the devil is easy to shut up. Psalm 22:3 says, “But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.” Satan will have to flee when we begin praising God because the Lord inhabits the praises of His people. The devil is not gonna stick around while you shout “Hallelujah” to the Lord.
Just shout out your praise to God. Praise Him for who He is, praise Him for what He has done, praise Him for His promises, and praise Him because He deserves it. As you are praising God, you will not hear from the devil.
Other people’s voices are also easy to shut up. All we have to do is get away from them. I realize their tapes continue to play in our heads, but if we can get alone somewhere and just focus on God, those tapes will stop, at least temporarily.
Our flesh is the more difficult to control because it never can get enough and is never satisfied. It is also the most difficult to control because it is extremely self-centered. Even still, Jesus said, “Deny yourself and follow me” (Mark 8:34).
Your flesh doesn’t want to follow Jesus. That would mean having to give up many things. It doesn’t matter. We are to crucify the flesh (Galatians 2:20). It’s just a decision.
When you quiet the evil triplets, the devil, other people’s flesh, and your own flesh, it will be much easier to hear from God. Now, that does not mean you will hear an audible voice, although you may, but not likely.
God speaks in many different ways. Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice and they follow me” (John 10:27).
Clearly, before we can know God’s voice, we must be like sheep. What are sheep? Only the dumbest animals on the face of the earth. We must become like dumb animals, knowing nothing (in and of ourselves), being completely dependant upon God. This goes back to crucifying the flesh.
When we hear from God it can be something from His written Word (logos), or it could be His audible voice (rhema). We can also get His rhema Word spoken through a friend. Or, it can be nature, convictions, open and shut doors of opportunity, and the most likely, internal peace.
One way you will not hear from God is through your emotions. Emotions are dangerous ground because they are never consistent. They’re up one minute and down the next. You can’t make important decisions based on something so erratic.
Many times, you will not get a definite answer on something specific. The Bible tells us that we are to live our lives by faith. We are to step out and try things that we feel God is leading us to do. Maybe this will work, maybe that will work. We just have to step out see. “In the morning sow your seed; For you do not know which will prosper, either this or that, or whether both alike will be good” (Ecc 6:11).
One thing is for sure, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord” (Psalm 37:23).
Trust God for direction as you take steps of faith toward what you feel He is calling you to. It won’t be long until you know for sure whether it was really Him or not.

In the Quran: What Allah will say to Jesus at the Resurrection? (7)

What is the Connection Between God and Man?

“What is the connection between God and man? If God is unseen, how can a connection be established between man and something unseen? How can man see the connection? Is the one who sees the connection a man, and is one who does not see the connection also a man? How does the connection come?” A man asked these questions of a Sufi gnani.

The gnani replied, “True indeed. Not everything we see or believe in is God, and not everyone we see is a man. But it is easy for a true man to see the connection between God and man.

“God is beyond mind, desire, and thought. From a place beyond mind, desire, and thought, one who acts with the qualities of God, who does the duty of God, who hands over to Him the responsibility for the diseases of hunger, illness, old age, and death, one who does duty without selfishness and has compassion—he is in the state in which God exists. He is a man, an insan. He is God. In that state he can see the connection between man and God, which is made up of the qualities and actions of God.

“When form is created, the ray of the power of God comes into each form. Thus a connection exists between the power known as God and the ray known as the soul. That ray existed within Him in anathi, the dark time before the beginning. The bodies that were formed with the ray of God’s power inside them will live with that connection.

“There are six kinds of lives. One of them, man, has a connection to God. Man had that connection in anathi, and he maintains it even after he leaves anathi. Just as a fish dies when it is taken out of water, the ray of the soul will die if its connection to God’s power is broken.

“God’s power exists for all time. But if man forgets his connection to it and establishes a connection to the five elements, to earth, fire, water, air, and ether, he will live and die with a connection to hell.

“One who maintains the connection to God is a man, while those who prefer the connection to the elements are pulled by those shakthis, their forces and energies, and disappear into the karma of animals. They become subject to millions of births and to hell. One who is connected to God is pulled by that power and grace and will disappear in God.

Is Jesus the Son of God Now Part 2

Written by Bro. Josh Sparks.

A statement made from a very popular preacher who I will not name, has really stirred my heart into writing a second part to this study concerning Jesus being the Son of God now. That statement is and I quote, ” When that body died and shed blood, it was the end of God’s Son. This same preacher made the statement that God only created the Sonship of Jesus Christ for a period of time until His blood could be shed to make us Holy again. Now I do agree that the body of Jesus was created as a means for a final sacrifice that would make atonemen for our sins ( Hebrews 10: 5-7; 9-10)5Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:  6In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. 7Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. 9Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.  10By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Jesus forever appeased the mind of God and settle His demands for justice, the Word that became flesh did pre-exist and was with God and was God. So we see there wasnt a seperation of the Spirit and the Word but they did talk to each other and this is evident in creation and on the cross. (Genesis 1:26) And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (Mark 15:34) And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?The Word is the creative substance that must be spoken before the Spirit can manifest anything. The Word spoke, Let there be light and the Spirit took what the Word had spoken and manifest it thus causing there to be light. The Word alway comes before the Spirit. That is why so many are sick and so many bound they want to jump up and down and hoop and holler and have songfests without no preaching and expect the Spirit to remove their sickness and free them from bondage when Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (and Romans 10:17).  But in these examples nowhere do you find one God praying to another or speaking to another but the Spirit and the Word who made made in their image and their likeness one image one likeness and Jesus is the image of the invisible God and the firstborn of every creature ( Colossians 1:15) Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature.

This preacher made the statement that the Son didnt exist until His birth and the Sonship of Jesus Christ ended at the cross. The statement was also made that the Son and his body was never taken to heaven and that at his resurrection He was resurrected as a Spirit and not a physical body made immortal by the resurrection from the dead. Jesus said in (John 3:13) And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. Here we see Jesus stating that no man ascended to heaven but he that came down from heave the Son of Man. Some preach He didnt take his body to heaven because flesh and blood cannot inherit the ingdom of God (1 Corinthians 15:5). Here we see a bible passage taken out of context and twisted to fit the belief systems of men. Paul was writing to us that flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom but we will when we are changed at Jesus coming from mortal to immortal. Read the whole chapter and dont skip a verse. It will make perfect sense to you. Jesus is the only personage in Heaven with a physical appearance and body of flesh and blood.

When Jesus rose from the dead He wasnt a spirit body but a man whose resurrection had clothed him in immortallity and that is what will happen to us at His coming. Jesus told His disciples after His resurrection ( Luke 24:39) Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. Also Jesus told Mary Magdelene in the garden not to touch Him because he had not yet ascended to God. ( John 20:17)Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

So many preach and teach the bible and belong on the milk of the word. Many today are preaching the lie the devil started in Eden that because man sinned they wouldnt die but be like God. Man was created a living soul(Genesis 2:7) and not an immortal soul. When a soul sins it shall surely die (Ezekial 18:4).  Many believe that we go to our reward when we die but Jesus said behold I come quickly and my reward is with me ( Revelation 22:12) And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. (See our study Great is your reward in Heaven).

Paul the Apostle wrote in (Hebrews 5: 5-14) 5So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.  6As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. 7Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;  8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; 10Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec. 11Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. 12For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Jesus proceeded or came forth from the father and clothed himself in flesh and He did rise from the dead the third day in His body and put on immortallity in His body as we will likewise at His appearing. In our next study part 3 of Is Jesus the Son of God now we will look at appearances of the Son of God in the Old testament. See the Son of God which is to say that physical form or likeness has always been the form of God. The Son of God exists for 2 reasons. 1) to make atonement for our sins. and 2) So we can see God face to face. God is a Spirit (John 4:24) and no man has see God at anytime (1 John 4:12). Jesus is the visable image of the invisible God and when we see Jesus we will see God.

Next study we will go into greater detail of the appearances of Jesus in the OT. Jesus has and always will be God and has always been the form of God. One final thought. If God could be a rock, a burning bush, a rod in Moses hand, a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night then why cant He be Jesus? He has been and always been Jesus Christ. May the Lord bless you in the Name of Jesus Christ.

In Jesus Name,

Man is More Helpful Than God

Man is more helpful than God

Dalip Singh Wasan, Advocate.

There had been a time when this man had got no knowledge about God and a time came when this man established the concept of God and then started giving Him all the powers including luck and destiny writing and that too before one comes to this earth. A time came when this man concluded that he is just a doll in the hands of God and what he thinks, what he does, all is done under the directions of God and man has got no power. The people who had established God started collecting people around them and thus we established religions and thus the man stood divided.

Some men could understand that God never comes on this earth and he sends men and women on this earth and also other animals who could be useful and helpful to the man. Man started taming these animals and also started establishing friendship with the man and the woman. A stage came when man and woman joined together through marriage and thus they started establishing family system and thus this family and home became the first unit of society on this earth.

Some people have declared that man is a social animal and therefore, it had been expected from him that he should try to live with others. The man started creating and establishing contacts and relations with others and thus a stage came when this man realized that what he wants he could get it done by others and therefore, he started getting help from others. Some were engaged as servants, as slaves, as friends, as relations and like that and they started helping each other. Today we have reached a stage where we can have help from this man without any further delay and if we start praying before God, there is no surety that God shall accept our prayer and shall grant us what we are demanding. If we need some amount immediately, we shall be contacting some of our friends or we shall contact some financial institution from where we would be getting money for our instant use. But if we start begging this amount from God, there are no chances that our prayer shall be accepted by God instantly. The man who is demanding money from us shall be doing something wrong with us and we shall suffer more. Therefore, we have decided that in such circumstances, it is better if we approach our people on this earth rather praying before God. Though this man is still under a fear and is not declaring that man is more important than God, but in his heart of heart he is trying to have more friends, more relations and a list of more people who are known to him. These people can provide us with instant help and therefore, we must create good relations with these people.

God is there, it has been established by us and therefore, we are still in doubt about the existence of God. If we count the people on this earth, about half of the population on this earth has already started disbelieving in the existence of God and they are declaring that this man on this earth is more important and therefore, we should start coming near to this man and we should spend more time in coming near to the man on this earth and we should not waste time to go to God and be close to Him.

Even our religious books are telling us that this man is more important and these books are advising us that we should think and work for the welfare of all around us. When religious books say that God is one and we all are children of God and we all are members of one and the same family, the earlier concept explained here comes to the forefront. That is the reason, all the people who are trying to establish sub religions are trying to collect the people at one platform so that they should avoid differences on the basis of religions, castes, sex and the like and they are trying that all the people should become members of one family. Time is coming when this man shall really realize that this man is more important and therefore, the time he is spending in realizing God must be put for creating good relations with the man around us.

And it is very easy to establish good relations with the man. He is very near to us and shall be happy to have contacts with us. We have noted that everyone around us wants to come near to us and we are sorry to note that we are having fear from others. They are our own people and if they become our friends, our relations, people known to us, we shall be at liberty to have their help in time of need. We also know that we are expecting danger and losses from people who are our enemies. Therefore, we must start creating friendship with all and none should be allowed to turn an enemy of us. Man is visible to us and it is within our approach and we all know that God is away and we are not having direct approach with God. We must avail of the services of the man who is near to us before we try to reach God.

Christmas: The celebration of Jesus Or Satan?

Many people in the world celebrate christmas at or around December 25th as being the birth of Jesus Christ. However, how does Santa Claus, the christmas tree and gift giving fit into the celebration of Christmas? What is the true meaning of Christmas that many people celebrate? These answers and more will be exposed in this article.

Regardless of what date many people think of as being the birth of Jesus Christ, it really is not the reason why Christmas is celebrated. Nowhere in the bible will you find the exact date of Jesus birth or any references to it being celebrated because God did not want us to remember his birth and celebrate it but he wanted us to think about his death, resurrection, his future coming and the reason he was sent to earth. Jesus and his apostles never celebrated his birth anywhere in the bible and not even after his death was his birth celebrated by any of his apostles or believers. However, there are clues in the bible as to the approximate date of Jesus’ birth and with a little work it can be calculated. A whole book could be written about all the evil associated with Christmas so this one subject will not be discussed in much detail except to say that Jesus’ birthday is not on December 25th. However, regardless of when people claim Jesus birthday was, Jesus told us to remember him by the eating of the bread which signified his body and drinking the wine which signified his blood. This was to be celebrated as the remembrance of him and not by the celebrating of Christmas on December 25th! The Christmas holiday and the dates that have been chosen to represent Jesus birth is an abomination in God’s eyes and actually have pagan roots. Nobody who can do research can deny this. Therefore, all people should be remembering Jesus the way he told us to and should be thinking about the reason God sent him to Earth and the good news he brought to us all.

So why is almost all christmas almost always about Santa Claus? The bible teaches that there is a subtle, clever, deceiving and evil being called Lucifer, the Devil, the Ancient Serpent and Satan. We can learn from the scriptures that he is like a lion who is seeking those he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). We can also learn that Satan is very subtle and deceiving in his ways and he goes after the most vulnerable first. An example of this can be found at the very first book of the Bible at Genesis chapter 3. He did not go after Adam first but he went after Eve first, the weaker of the two. Another example of how Satan is can be found in Jesus own words at Luke 10:19. There Jesus says, “I saw Satan as lightning fall from Heaven”. Lightning just like Satan goes to the path of least resistance first. Now what better way would Satan have to deceive and attack humans than to go after our weakest, most vulnerable and least resistant which are our children? This is where Santa Claus fits into the pagan and false holiday of Christmas. Santa Claus seems so loving and harmless who brings gifts for the good. This is exactly what Satan wants us and especially our children to think. In the book of Genesis, Satan in a very subtle and deceiving way came to Eve when she was alone and got her to eat the forbidden fruit. The fruit looked good and pleasant but it was against what God told her she could eat. The same goes for Santa Claus. Satan is using Santa Claus and Christmas to lore our children and us away from serving God and remembering Jesus, the very person who is the reason why Christmas is supposed to be here in the first place. Satan tricks people very subtly into worshipping him by disguising himself as Santa Claus and comparing Santa Claus to both Jesus and God and connecting Santa Claus into Jesus birthday. He sets Santa and Christmas up to look good and pleasant to all people but actually they are against God. Anyone who listens to the Christmas music or reads the childrens books or watches television can see that Santa Claus flies through the sky and goes to every house and rewards those who were good by giving gifts. Just like Jesus will be coming from the heavens in his future coming and rewarding those who chose him and worshipped God (Revelation Chapters 2-3). Santa Claus is also said to be able to deliver gifts to everyone in the world in a single night. Just like God is the all powerful and almighty God and nothing is impossible for him (Luke 1:37). Santa Claus lives at the North Pole and rides from the north on a flying sleigh and he also sits on a throne. God also is described as coming out of the north seated upon a throne (Ezekiel 1:4-28) Santa Claus is also said to always know when we have been good or bad. Just like Jesus and God always know when we are bad and good (Proverbs 15:3). Santa Claus is also said to know when we are sleeping and know when we are awake. Just like God and Jesus know when we are sleeping and when we are awake (Psalms 33:13-14). Santa Claus has white hair. God and Jesus also are also described as having white hair in visions (Revelation 1:14; Daniel 7:9). Santa Claus came from Old Saint Nick who supposedly helped a few people and performed a miracle. Jesus Christ performed numerous miracles and helped many people. Santa Claus has his reindeer and elves as helpers just like Jesus had his apostles and followers. Santa Claus has a carpenter shop at the north pole where he and his elves build toys. Jesus was a carpenter (Mark 6:3). Santa Claus is also sometimes referred to as “Kris Kringle” which means Christ Child. Santa Claus is not Jesus and there was only one christ child who was on this earth (Matthew 1:23). Santa Claus also sits in the malls and people bring their children to him. People also brought their children to Jesus (Luke 18:15-17). Children are told to believe in Santa. All God’s people must believe in Jesus (John 14:1). Santa is said to live forever. God is eternal, he always was and he always will be (Deuteronomy 33:27; Psalms 90:2). These are all ways that Satan is trying to replace Jesus in the Christmas holiday with his Santa. He is comparing himself to both God and Jesus and trying to lure us and our children especially into celebrating Christmas and worshipping Santa Claus instead of God.

Another twisted aspect about the false holiday of Jesus Christ’s birth is the displaying of the christmas tree along with the star on top of the tree. The Christmas tree, stars and pictures of Santa Claus can be seen everywhere around the time of Christmas. They can be seen hanging from walls, ceilings, in windows, on people’s porches, etc… When they are displayed in this manner they are considered as man-made idols in God’s eyes. The ancient people from the bible also had similar idols and also worshipped false gods. Jeremiah 10:2-4 states, “This is what the Lord says: Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the sky, though the nations are terrified by them. For the customs of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with a chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter.” Throughout the Bible God commands us many times not to make or worship idols and false gods. The making or worshipping of false gods and idols is actually a violation of the first and second commandments (Exodus 20:1-4). The Christmas tree has a proven and well documented Pagan history and origin. So if you think that the Christmas tree is all fun and games and harmless then please think again. This is exactly what Satan wants you to think.

So what about the giving of gifts on Christmas? How is this a bad thing? Well, all year children all over the world cannot wait for Christmas time because it is a time that they know they will receive the gifts. Now there is nothing wrong with giving people gifts. However, when gifts are dedicated at a certain time of the year at Christmas time and placed under a christmas tree and given by “Santa” then this is wrong. This also promotes materialism and greed in young children which they will end up having the rest of their lives and spreading to their own children and so on. Throughout the Bible God tells us that he hates materialism and greed. The gift giving also turns people’s attention away from God and Jesus and focuses it on Santa and the gifts. The gift giving is just another way Satan is making Christmas to look irresistible to humans. Satan will do whatever he can to mislead people and turn us away from God. So by celebrating the Pagan holiday of Christmas and worshipping Santa Claus, Satan is actually rewarding everybody with gifts. Instead of dedicating a certain time of the year to give gifts, why not give gifts at random times throughout the year?

Much more can be said about all the evils in Christmas and Santa Claus but this is all the general truth. If you are feeling close-minded to the truth about Christmas then please do more research on this subject and learn the truth for yourself. However, if you do know the truth and continue to celebrate Christmas and accept the replacement of Jesus with Santa Claus and accept all the other evil then God counts this as a sin towards you. Be strong and stand up to Satan and all his evil.
