Becoming A DISCIPLE of Jesus

Becoming A DISCIPLE of Jesus
Question and answer: “Is there anything else I need to do?”
Becoming a Christian is just the beginning. Jesus makes it clear that we must become disciples; and to be a disciple is costly. But with a great price, comes a great reward!
Fact: God has a plan and purpose for your life and He knows best.

Todays Prayer

Dear God,
Thank you for this new summer day. Thank you for the beautiful sunshine, fluffy clouds, and fresh rains. I am in awe of Your works. The thunderstorms that send lightening and thunder crashing, the wind that comes to dry up the heavy rain, the bumblebee that flies in spite of being too big and heavy for those little wings, the lightening bugs that flicker at night and send children chasing through the yard, the crickets that chirp, and the frogs and birds that sing, the oceans that roar and the mountains so tall, the ant that is so busy and the handicapped who smile and don’t even recognize their inabilities. God, you are awesome and you are good. Thank you for happy memories and even the sad ones, for they have helped shape me and increase my trust and dependence on you. With love and faith, in Jesus’ name, amen.

“The LORD said, ‘Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by’” (1 Kings 19:11).

Today’s Prayer

God, please show me how you want me to use the skills, spiritual gifts, resources you have given me and the relationships you have allowed me to have to prepare for the great harvest You have planned. I pray that I will be a tool in your hands to draw people to you. With that in mind, I ask you to please forgive me of my sins, sins that stand in the way of a closer fellowship with you and that would be a hindrance to my living testimony. Please help me start fresh and new again right now. Thank you and bless you, Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Today’s Prayer

Today’s Prayer
Dear Father in Heaven, Thank You for Your loving hand of guidance. This is hard to do from a human standpoint (even a “child’s” viewpoint), but thank You for Your chastisement. I know that You love me because You care enough to bring about or allow things to happen to stop me and redirect my priorities and my paths. When things don’t turn out like I expect, it’s usually because I’m not doing what You want me to do or I’m doing something that would not bring about the best results for me, my loved ones, or those in my circle of influence. I pray that You would continue to direct the work of my hands, the desires of my  heart, the steps that I take, and help me to turn in trust when You redirect my paths. For God, I know that all things work together for the good of those who love You (Romans 8:28). I love You. In Jesus’ name to come to You. Amen.

Should Christians Celebrate Christmas?

Should Christians Celebrate Christmas?
By: J. Hampton Keathley, III
Source – Bible.org
Introduction

“Should Christians celebrate Christmas?” or, “How should a Christian celebrate Christmas?” These are questions of concern for many sincere believers. In fact, many believers dislike the season and have refused to celebrate it at all. A number of reasons are given, and while I might agree with some of their concerns and some of the reasons offered against the observance of Christmas, I would not necessarily agree with their conclusions.

One day I happened to catch a TV preacher denouncing the celebration of Christmas. He was saying it is pagan holiday, and that Christ could not have born in December. He used some Old Testament passages to show how the Christmas tree was idolatrous and an abomination. He quoted Jeremiah 10:2-4 which reads:

2 Thus says the LORD, “Do not learn the way of the nations, And do not be terrified by the signs of the heavens Although the nations are terrified by them; 3 For the customs of the peoples are delusion; Because it is wood cut from the forest, The work of the hands of a craftsman with a cutting tool. 4 “They decorate it with silver and with gold; They fasten it with nails and with hammers so that it will not totter.

Six Ways to Invite God to Thanksgiving Dinner

Just like the Pilgrims so long ago, when most people sit down to Thanksgiving dinner they express gratitude for the heaping plate of food before them. Unlike the Pilgrims, however, whose thanks were offered specifically to God in heartfelt prayers, today too many people’s words of gratitude are offered in a cursory manner. Before putting that first forkful of turkey into their mouths, they say their prayers as a necessary formality without much thought to a Divine Presence.

It’s easy to find ourselves feeling physically full but spiritually empty at the end of the Thanksgiving holiday feast. Much like other holidays, religious or otherwise, many of us forget to invite God to our Thanksgiving table.

In other words, we don’t look at the bigger picture. We don’t factor in how God might have had a hand in creating the food we are about to eat, in the abundance and prosperity that made it possible to purchase and prepare the feast or in our safe arrival at the Thanksgiving table. Thanksgiving offers a wonderful opportunity to put God into the picture, which transforms the holiday into a spiritual and meaningful one.

With a little thought and planning, we can transform empty Thanksgiving observances into meaning-full and spirit-full rituals and traditions. And we don’t have to be particularly religious to do so. To achieve this, we need only have a belief in God and a desire to have this particular holiday be a spiritual experience. If we possess these, we are well on the way to creating a meaning-full and spirit-full holiday.

In addition, incorporating any or all of the following six steps into a Thanksgiving celebration will help change an empty holiday observance into a meaning-full and spirit-full one:

1. Voice your intention to have a spiritual experience. You can simple state your intention aloud or write it on a piece of paper Intention has an awesome ability to manifest. So, clearly intend that this Thanksgiving celebration will feel and be spiritual for you. Imagine that your intention serves as an invitation sent upward, outward, inward wherever you believe God resides to the Divine. After all, if you don’t invite God to dinner, God won’t know to show up.

2. Have faith that God will arrive. It’s difficult to have a spiritual experience if you don’t, first, believe in God, and second, have faith that you can have an experience of God. You can’t believe it when you see it’ with God. You have to believe it so you can see it.

3. Develop the courage to let God in. Fear represents the largest thing that stops most people from having a spiritual experience. They are afraid of what the experience will be like, how it will change them, how it will affect their lives. You have to have courage to experience God. If you are too afraid to open the door when your dinner guest rings the bell, you’ll be dining alone.

4. Create a sanctuary. This is a specially decorated and prepared space in which you plan to serve your Thanksgiving dinner. When you make the effort to create a sacred space for any celebration or holiday observance, you will find your festivities automatically take on a more spiritual atmosphere and energy. In other words, create a sacred space. In the Old Testament, God tells the Jews, “Build for me a sanctuary and I will dwell among you.” (Exodus 25:8-9) Create a space in which God can “be” with you.

5. Remember to thank God. Create prayers especially for this day. If you don’t want to write your own prayer, use an existing one from your own faith or from some religious or spiritual tradition. Prayers, being what they are words spoken to God automatically give the meal a spiritual bent and cause us to remember God.

6. Take on the role of spiritual leader. Don’t rely on anyone else to make this year’s Thanksgiving observance a spiritual experience for you. Take responsibility and make it that for yourself and for the other people sharing the holiday with you. Don’t be afraid to try something new or to be creative. Bring spiritually symbolic items to your table or share spiritual readings. Orchestrate the meal in a way that feels spiritual to you, and other people will feel that energy as well.

By taking these six steps toward a meaningful and spiritual Thanksgiving observance, you can ensure that you not only invite God to your Thanksgiving celebration but that you feel if not actually see God sitting at your table.

In Bible versus Quran: the True Nature of the Lord Jesus

The Sons of the Lord God in Bible versus Quran (16)

This is the 16th article of the series:” The Sons of the Lord God in Bible versus Quran”.

The Bible affirms the Faith in the Son of God by saying who is overcoming the world? It is only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.  The Noble Quran says that it is an unforgivable sin when you say or believe that the Almighty Creator has a son or sons; this major sin will lead to the Eternal Fire in the Hereafter.

——————————————————————–

The Sons of the Lord God in the Bible (16)

The Bible (1 John 5:1-5) says that everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? It is only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

——————————————–

1 John 5:1-5 in five different versions of the Bible:

New International Version

1Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

American Standard Version

1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is begotten of God: and whosoever loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

2 Hereby we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and do his commandments.

3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

4 For whatsoever is begotten of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that hath overcome the world, even our faith.

5 And who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

English Standard Version

1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 4For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world— our faith. 5Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

King James Version

1Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

4For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

5Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

The Sons of the Lord God in the Quran (16)

The Noble Quran makes the topic of the sons of God very clear and says that Allah, the Almighty Creator, has neither a son nor a partner.

In addition, The Quran makes the signs that Jesus was not god very understandable.

The Quran says that Allah will say unto Jesus at the Resurrection in rebuke of his followers: ‘O Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to mankind in the life of this world, “Take me and my mother as gods, besides Allah”?’

Jesus will say unto Allah: ‘Glory be to You!, exalted be You above all that does not befit You, such as having a partner and so on. It is not mine; it is unjustified for me, to say what I have no right to.

It is not befitting for the Majesty of Allah to take to Himself a son.

Allah is exalted, magnified; He is above what they associate with Him of son or partners.  Allah is far transcendent above all that they ascribe unto Him!

In Islam, this point is very important faith wise.

From the Islamic point of view, the conclusion of this fundamental topic that may establish or destroy the faith is that:

Any one who believe that the Almighty Creator has a son or Sons; he messes up his faith and is considered as a disbeliever and in the afterlife he will end up as an eternal inhabitant of the Eternal Hell.

Any one who believes that the Almighty Creator has no son or partner, he has a good faith and is considered as a believer; and in the afterlife, he will end up as an eternal inhabitant of the Eternal Paradise.

Verses 5:116-119 make the topic of the son(s) of God plain, clear and understandable.

——————————————–

The meanings of verses 5:116-119:

The meanings of verse 5:116

And, mention when God will say, to Jesus at the Resurrection in rebuke of his followers: ‘O Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to mankind in the life of this world, “Take me and my mother as gods, besides Allah”?’

He, Jesus, says, shuddering: ‘Glory be to You!, exalted be You above all that does not befit You, such as having a partner and/or a son. It is not mine who said that, it is unjustified for me, to say what I have no right to.

You know what I have conveyed to them of commands and prohibitions.

If I indeed had said it to them, You would have known it. You know what is, hidden by me, in my self, but I do not know what is within Your Self, that is, what You keep hidden of Your knowledge.

The meanings of verse 5:117

(Jesus continues) I only said to them in the life of this world only that which You commanded me, to say, and that is: “Worship Allah, declare Allah’s divine Oneness and obey Him; He is my Lord and yours.”

And I was a witness, a watcher, over them, preventing them from saying what they used to say by conveying your message whilst I dwelt among them; but when You took me, when You raised me up to the heaven, You were Yourself the Watcher over them, You were the Protector and Witness of them, the Observer of their deeds, and You Yourself are Witness over all things, Aware and knowing them, including what I said to them and what they said after me, and whatever else.

The meanings of verse 5:118

(Jesus continues) If you chastise them, that is, those among them who are fixed upon disbelief, verily they are Your slaves, and You are their Master, disposing of them as You will: there can be no objection to what You do; and if You forgive them, lo! they are Your slaves. You, only You, are the Mighty in His affair and the Wise in His actions.

The meanings of verse 5:119

Allah is well-pleased with them, because of their faith, works and obedience to Him, and they are well-pleased with Him, because of His reward and the honor bestowed upon them.  That which I have mentioned of eternity and pleasure is the great triumph; the ultimate safety: they earned Paradise and were saved from the torment of hell.   The sincerity of those who were liars in this world shall not avail them on that Day, just as it shall not avail the disbelievers when they (will) believe upon seeing the chastisement.

——————————————-

Verses 5:116-119 of the Noble Quran in four different translations:

Verse 5:116

QARIB: and when Allah said: ‘( prophet) Jesus, son of Mary, did you ever say to the people: “take me and my mother for two gods, other than Allah?” ‘exaltations to you, ‘ he said, ‘how could i say that to which i have no right? if i had said that, you would have surely known. you know what is in my self, but i do not know what is in yours. indeed, you are the knowledgeable of the unseen.

SHAKIR: and when Allah will say: o isa son of marium! did you say to men, take me and my mother for two gods besides Allah he will say: glory be to thee, it did not befit me that i should say what i had no right to (say); if i had said it, thou wouldst indeed have known it; thou knowest what is in my mind, and i do not know what is in thy mind, surely thou art the great knower of the unseen things

PICKTHAL: and when Allah saith: o Jesus, son of Mary! didst thou say unto mankind: take me and my mother for two gods beside Allah? he saith: be glorified! it was not mine to utter that to which i had no right. if i used to say it, then thou knewest it. thou knowest what is in my mind, and i know not what is in thy mind. lo! thou, only thou, art the knower of things hidden?

YUSUFALI: and behold! Allah will say: “o Jesus the son of marry! didst thou say unto men, worship me and my mother as gods in derogation of Allah’?” he will say: “glory to thee! never could i say what i had no right (to say). had i said such a thing, thou wouldst indeed have known it. thou knowest what is in my heart, thou i know not what is in thine. for thou knowest in full all that is hidden.

Verse 5:117

QARIB: i spoke to them of nothing except that which you ordered me, that you worship Allah, my lord and our lord. i witnessed them whilst living in their midst and ever since you took me to you, you have been the watcher over them. you are the witness of everything.

SHAKIR: i did not say to them aught save what thou didst enjoin me with: that serve Allah, my lord and your lord, and i was a witness of them so long as i was among them, but when thou didst cause me to die, thou wert the watcher over them, and thou art witness of all things

PICKTHAL: i spake unto them only that which thou commandedst me, (saying): worship Allah, my lord and your lord. i was a witness of them while i dwelt among them, and when thou tookest me thou wast the watcher over them. thou art witness over all things.

YUSUFALI: “never said i to them aught except what thou didst command me to say, to wit, ‘worship Allah, my lord and your lord’; and i was a witness over them whilst i dwelt amongst them; when thou didst take me up thou wast the watcher over them, and thou art a witness to all things.

Verse 5:118

QARIB: if you punish them (for their disbelief), they surely are your subjects; and if you forgive them, surely you are the almighty, the wise. ‘

shouldst forgive them, then surely thou art the mighty, the wise

PICKTHAL: if thou punish them, lo! they are thy slaves, and if thou forgive them (lo! they are thy slaves). lo! thou, only thou, art the mighty, the wise.

YUSUFALI: “if thou dost punish them, they are thy servant: if thou dost forgive them, thou art the exalted in power, the wise.”

Verse 5:119

QARIB: Allah will say: ‘this is the day the truthful shall benefit by their truthfulness. they shall live for ever in gardens underneath which rivers flow. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with him. that is the great winning. ‘

SHAKIR: Allah will say: this is the day when their truth shall benefit the truthful ones; they shall have gardens beneath which rivers flow to abide in them for ever: Allah is well pleased with them and they are well pleased with Allah; this is the mighty achievement

PICKTHAL: Allah saith: this is a day in which their truthfulness profiteth the truthful, for theirs are gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they are secure for ever, Allah taking pleasure in them and they in him. that is the great triumph.

YUSUFALI: Allah will say: “this is a day on which the truthful will profit from their truth: theirs are gardens, with rivers flowing beneath,- their eternal home: Allah well-pleased with them, and they with Allah: that is the great salvation, (the fulfillment of all desires).
